Wapsie Valley Education Foundation Mission Statement
The mission statement of the Wapsie Valley Education Foundation is to promote educational excellence by providing financial resources to support and enhance the education programs for all students and staff of the Wapsie Valley Community School District and serve as a means to accept contributions, gifts and bequests.
The Wapsie Valley Education Foundation will hold their annual fund raising dinner and auction on Friday, November 18th at the Fairbank American Legion. The dinner will be served from 5:30 to 7 pm. It will be a free will donation. We will serve pork loin, cheesy potatoes, green bean casserole, and salad catered by the Fairbank Food Center. Dessert will be hot fudge brownie sundaes. The silent auction will start at 5:30 pm and the live auction begins at 7 pm. The auctioneer will be Dolan Burreson. The funds raised will used for grants for the teachers at Wapsie Valley Schools and scholarships for senior students. If you would like to donate an item for the auction, please contact a board member. Current board members are: Chad Van Daele, Mischa Matthias, Joey Ridgon, Kristi Marticoff, Doug Sheppard, Marilyn Steggall, Steve Phelan, Matt Trotter and Kim Brown.
The Wapsie Valley Education Foundation gives grants to teachers and scholarships to students. In 2016, we gave the following scholarship service awards of $500 each to Courtney Dinsdale, Austin Shephard and Jacob Harks. In memory of this organization’s founder, we also gave two Carlene Werner Memorial Scholarships of $500 each to Kassidy Kuhlman and Gabrielle Power. The Leistikow Family (Laverne & Judy Leistikow, Ron & Judy Leistikow and Kurt & Jenifer Leistikow) donated $400 each as scholarships to: Emily Martins, Dylan Lampe, Kaylee Klietsch and Tanner Mohlis.
In 2016, we also gave grants for the following projects: Iowa History Tour of Northeast Iowa, STEM for extended learning: Sphero Balls, Makey Makey and Robot kits, Educational reading programs, Kindergarten & 1st grade math skills activities, 7th *& 8th grade reading curriculum, school counseling resources, instrumental enrichment in the music classroom, Literacy week/Title I library for students,5 apple ipads, 1 minute teach interactive whiteboard and 2 mimio pad wireless pen tablets, science tower gardens, interest area enhancement, “Live the Life You Lead” guest speaker, workshops and student projects, Analyzing and interpretive data using the LabQuest 2 interface, Protecting our percussion Repair and Damager prevention for our student’s instruments, Presentation equipment for the auditorium, second grade Brain Pop subscription and Literacy Connection.
All proceeds will go towards enhancing the learning experience for Wapsie Valley Students. We hope you will be able to join us on Friday evening, November 18. Thank you for your past support. We put the $$$ into education!
